Scientific Properties, LLC is a private Durham, North Carolina-based real estate development company focused on comprehensive, community-based urban real estate development ("Scientific Properties: Revitalizing Our Cities & Urban Neighborhoods™").
We are a vertically integrated firm specializing in inner city revitalization, historic preservation, adaptive re-use and mixed-use and arts-related development. We typically acquire, entitle, develop, and continue to own and manage our projects and seek leadership roles in the broader community with regard to general economic development and social issues. Additionally, Scientific Properties has deep expertise in the development of technically advanced scientific research and development facilities.
We currently have a development pipeline of several million square feet and invest and develop on behalf of both private individuals and institutional funds.

Prior to founding Scientific Properties in 2000, Dr. Rothschild was previously a practicing physician and served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the State University of New York. Andrew received a B.A. from Columbia University, a M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Andrew recently completed two terms as the Chairman of the board of Downtown Durham, Inc. and has served on the board of the Durham Chamber of Commerce.
Andrew holds LEED certification and is a member of the Urban Land Institute. Andrew is currently the Chairman of the Durham Workforce Development Board and also serves on the Board of Advisors of the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, in addition to chairing the museum’s Acquisitions Committee. Andrew also serves on the Durham Cultural Master Plan Advisory Board, as well as on the boards of the Duke School for Children and the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. Andrew is also the founder of Laboratories for Learning, Inc., a non-profit, public/private educational initiative in biotechnology and entrepreneurship.
