History
Scientific Properties, LLC is a private Durham, North Carolina-based real estate development company focused on comprehensive, community-based urban real estate development ("Scientific Properties: Revitalizing Our Cities & Urban Neighborhoods™").
We are a vertically integrated firm specializing in inner city revitalization, historic preservation, adaptive re-use and mixed-use and arts-related development. We typically acquire, entitle, develop, and continue to own and manage our projects and seek leadership roles in the broader community with regard to general economic development and social issues. Additionally, Scientific Properties has deep expertise in the development of technically advanced scientific research and development facilities.
We currently have a development pipeline of several million square feet and invest and develop on behalf of both private individuals and institutional funds.
Dr. Andrew Rothschild Biography, MANAGING PARTNER

Dr. Andrew Rothschild launched Scientific Properties in 2000 as an urban real estate development company with an emphasis on superior design and community needs.   Scientific Properties is fully committed to the Durham community. Andrew recently completed two terms as the Chairman of the Board of Downtown Durham, Inc. and has served on the board of the Durham Chamber of Commerce as well as chaired the Durham Workforce Development Board.  From the start, environmentally-conscious development has been a goal of the company. Andrew has held LEED accreditation since 2002 and is a member of the Urban Land Institute.  He serves on the Board of Advisors of the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, in addition to chairing the museum’s Acquisitions Committee. Andrew serves on the board of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and is also the founder of Laboratories for Learning, Inc., a non-profit, public/private educational initiative in biotechnology and entrepreneurship.

Prior to founding Scientific Properties, Dr. Rothschild was a practicing physician and served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the State University of New York. Andrew received a B.A. from Columbia University, a M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Andrew is presently the managing partner of a private global real estate investment fund located in New York, and remains directly involved with Scientific Properties.

TUCKER BARTLETT Biography, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Tucker was appointed Chief Operating Officer in September 2008.  In his role as COO, Tucker oversees Scientific Properties’ projects in Durham which include a development pipeline of over two million square feet.  In his tenure with Scientific Properties, Tucker has directly managed the redevelopment of historic textile mill and tobacco warehouses into modern mixed-use developments.  Tucker speaks frequently at conferences across the country about urban real estate development and the use of Historic Rehabilitation and New Market Tax Credits.  He is on the Executive Committee Board for Downtown Durham, Inc., the Development Committee for Housing for New Hope, the Advisory Board for Cherokee Investment Partners Brownfield Revitalization, the board of the Durham Arts Council, the Credit Committee for Self-Help Ventures Fund and is the Treasurer for Parrish Street Advocacy Group.

Prior to joining Scientific Properties, Tucker was the Director of Commerical Real Estate Development and Lending at Self-Help Ventures Fund.  Tucker coordinated the development and asset management of Self-Help's 15 building, 550,000 square foot portfolio.  Tucker also managed approximately $50 million in commercial real estate loans that financed commercial development in low-income areas.  Other work experience includes time as a Small Business Development Agent in Benin, West Africa for the U.S. Peace Corps and as a Financial Analyst for NationsBank's multinational corporate finance unit. Tucker received a Masters in Regional Planning and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He lives in downtown Durham with his wife Katy and their children Sam and Lily.
