Dr. Gary Kueber

Gary Kueber joined Scientific Properties in 2007 as director of development, specifically responsible for the firm’s two largest projects to date—Venable Center and Golden Belt—and managing the leasing, green building, and neighborhood revitalization efforts for the firm.   In 2010, Gary was promoted to chief executive officer where he oversees Scientific Properties’ operations and current portfolio of projects.

A native of New Orleans, Gary moved to downtown Durham in 1997, after initially coming to the area in 1988 to attend Duke University. He practiced internal medicine in private practice until 2004 when he returned to graduate school and completed Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Regional Planning (MRP) degrees from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. 

  Immediately prior to joining Scientific Properties in 2007, he produced research documenting associations between land use, transportation networks and physical health.

Gary has served on the Board of Directors for Preservation Durham, worked on neighborhood organization efforts for communities in East Durham, and is the author of Open Durham—a land use and architectural history website that he has written and published regularly since August 2006. He is frequently invited to speak on issues of community history, sustainable development, and architectural preservation to university classes and community organizations.

Peter J. de Leon, Director of Asset Management

Peter J. de Leon was named Director of Asset Management at Scientific Properties where he is now responsible for asset and property management of the firm’s commercial portfolio.  Prior to his current role, he was General Manager at University Mall in Chapel Hill, NC where he led all aspects of the business operations, marketing and leasing of the property. He played a key role in the redevelopment team lead to the repositioning of the asset, leasing of 182,850 square feet, and the refinancing of the project.  Prior to that Peter was Mall Manager at Northgate Mall in Durham NC.  During his tenure there he oversaw operations, accounting, security, and managed all tenant relations.   As a 15 year resident of Chapel Hill, he is excited to be joining the team at Scientific Properties.

Peter holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley and a BS degree in Industrial Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

  Catherine Bartels, Development Manager
Catherine is very excited to have joined Scientific Properties as a Real Estate Associate, where she focuses on design and underwriting of future projects, financial reporting, and asset management.

Catherine is a recent graduate of the Masters in City and Regional Planning program at UNC-Chapel Hill with a dual concentration in Real Estate Development and Affordable Housing and Community Development. She also has a Bachelor’s of Architecture degree from the Pennsylvania State University. Catherine is happy to have found a company where she can explore her interests in both community design and sustainable building finance.

  Before she came to Scientific Properties, Catherine worked as part of national study on sustainability in multifamily properties sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation. In graduate school, her research focused on the impact of heirs property in Wake County, NC. She has additional experience working in construction, graphic design, and architecture, designing primarily R&D/Vivarium spaces, commercial spaces, and high-end residential.

Catherine is involved with several Triangle area groups that share her interests, including the American Institute of Architects – Triangle Chapter, Young Non-Profit Professionals of the Triangle, USGBC Triangle, Young Planners Group of the Triangle, and the Triangle Penn State Alumni Society. She lives in Morrisville.

     

David Green

David Green joined Scientific Properties in October of 2013, taking the role of commercial leasing associate, charged with orchestrating the leasing of available office, retail, and lab space in the company's portfolio. David's focus on the day to day leasing efforts includes cultivating relationships with tenants and the brokerage community at large, working to maximize occupancy at the properties and creative positive tenant mixes. Prior to joining Scientific Properties, David spent several years working for the mortgage insurance division of a Fortune 500 company before acquiring his North Carolina Broker's License and entering the real estate sector in a residential capacity. 

  A Raleigh native and graduate of East Carolina University, David has lived and worked in several areas of the state and is excited to add the ever-improving city of Durham to the list. He's loved to travel since he was young, being fortunate enough to have visited many places across the United States and several overseas. When not at work or traveling, he enjoys spending time with his Labrador Retriever, Ace, cooking, and watching football with friends.

Dr.  Andrew Rothschild launched Scientific Properties in 2000 as an urban real estate development company with an emphasis on superior design and community needs.   From the start, environmentally-conscious development has been a goal of the company.   Andrew has held LEED accreditation since 2002 and is a member of the Urban Land Institute.  He serves on the Board of Advisors of the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, in addition to chairing the museum’s Acquisitions Committee.   Andrew serves on the board of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and is also the founder of Laboratories for Learning, Inc., a non-profit, public/private educational initiative in biotechnology and entrepreneurship.   He completed two terms as the Chairman of the Board of Downtown Durham, Inc. and has served on the board of the Durham Chamber of Commerce as well as chaired the Durham Workforce Development Board.  Andrew is presently the managing partner of a private global real estate investment fund located in New York, and remains directly involved with Scientific Properties.

Prior to founding Scientific Properties, Dr. Rothschild was a practicing physician and served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the State University of New York.   Andrew received a B.A. from Columbia University, a M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
