Dr. Gary Kueber

Gary Kueber joined Scientific Properties in 2007 as director of development, specifically responsible for the firm’s two largest projects to date—Venable Center and Golden Belt—and managing the leasing, green building, and neighborhood revitalization efforts for the firm.   In 2010, Gary was promoted to chief operating officer where he oversees Scientific Properties’ operations and current portfolio of projects which includes a development pipeline of over two million square feet.

A native of New Orleans, Gary moved to downtown Durham in 1997, after initially coming to the area in 1988 to attend Duke University. He practiced internal medicine in private practice until 2004 when he returned to graduate school and completed Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Regional Planning (MRP) degrees from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. 

  Immediately prior to joining Scientific Properties in 2007, he produced research documenting associations between land use, transportation networks and physical health.

Gary has served on the Board of Directors for Preservation Durham, worked on neighborhood organization efforts for communities in East Durham, and is the author of Endangered Durham—a land use and architectural history website that he has written and published regularly since August 2006. He is frequently invited to speak on issues of community history, sustainable development, and architectural preservation to university classes and community organizations.  Gary is currently on the boards of Downtown Durham Inc. (DDI) and the Durham Arts Council.

Rob Griffin joined Scientific Properties as director of property management and construction manager in the spring of 2007, specifically responsible for managing construction at Golden Belt and Venable during the redevelopment of these two projects, while managing the firm’s other stabilized properties.  Promoted to Director of Asset Management in the summer of 2009, he is now responsible for asset and property management of the firm’s project portfolio as well as oversight of leasing efforts at stabilized properties.

A native of Durham, Rob moved back home to join Scientific Properties’ efforts to revitalize his hometown after spending 10 years in Minnesota performing various roles in development and asset management. 

  He began his career in commercial real estate as a partner with Hamilton Real Estate in Rochester, MN managing residential and commercial properties, including properties for Mayo Clinic and IBM.  Prior to joining SP, he served as Vice President of Gaughan Properties in Forest Lake MN overseeing the development and management of 1M+ square feet of commercial properties and 1800+ apartment units.

Rob studied geography and planning at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.  He is an active member of the Triangle chapters of Building Owners and Managers Association and International Facility Managers Association as well as Durham Young Professionals.  Rob lives in Raleigh with his wife Veronica and their two Jack Russell terriers, Brooke and Sammy.

Steve Hess joined Scientific Properties in the 2008 as director of construction.  He supports the development team on the various projects by performing due diligence, entitlement and financing activities, and managing construction.  Steve works with clients from conceptual conversations through project closeout, helping to provide design solutions supplemented by cost and schedule analyses.  He selects the best professional services and delivery systems to serve our customers' needs.

Steve grew up in the construction industry, starting as a laborer in 1988 and progressing to a superintendent before transitioning into project management and preconstruction.  He worked with Skanska Building for over 12 years in all aspects of construction, across many different types of owners and products—medical, educational, retail, wellness and liturgical. 

  Steve Accredited Professional and has engaged in several LEED projects including Duke SMART House and Golden Belt. He achieved an Associates Degree from Luzerne County Community College, a Bachelor of Environmental Design-Architect from NC State and a Masters of Business Administration from University of North Carolina.

Steve values the community and culture of the Triangle.  He serves as a member of The Wake County Housing and Community Revitalization Board, the ULI Communications Committee, the NAIOP Program Committee and the USGBC Development Committee.  He volunteers at The Healing Place of Wake County and the Literacy Council of Wake County.  Steve lives in Raleigh with his family, Kristen, Lauren and Ethan.

     

William Spransy

William Spransy joined SP in May 2010 in the role of finance manager.  William is responsible for the financial reporting, asset finance and management, and underwriting of the current portfolio and future projects.

William is a recent MBA graduate of UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School  where he concentrated in the fields of Real Estate and Corporate Finance and was inducted as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society.   Before moving to North Carolina, William was a Director of Asset Management and Acquisitions at AIMCO, a real estate investment trust, in their Washington, DC office. 

  In that role, he was responsible for a portfolio of apartment properties worth in excess of $500M, which included properties financed using Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Historic Preservation Credits.

In addition to an MBA from UNC, William has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from American University in Washington, DC.  He is an active member and has held leadership positions in the Urban Land Institute Young Leaders Group, as well as being a member of the USGBC’s Emerging Green Builders.  William lives with his wife Staci and their dog, Frankie, in Chapel Hill.

     

Tommy Rodwell

Tommy Rodwell joined Scientific Properties at the beginning of 2011 as a commercial leasing associate concentrating on office and retail leasing for the company’s portfolio.  Tommy’s focus on the day to day leasing efforts includes establishing relationships with tenants and the brokerage community at large, working to maximize occupancy at the properties and create positive tenant mixes.  Prior to joining Scientific Properties Tommy worked as a leasing agent for a shopping center developer, focusing on the leasing of a 2M+ square foot portfolio across five states.  He also previously worked as a general commercial broker across all asset classes, in property management, and as a consultant for a commercial real estate due diligence provider.

  A Raleigh native and graduate of North Carolina State University, Tommy is an active member of many industry organizations including: National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, Triangle Area Office Building Association, and Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors.  When not at work, he enjoys basketball, fishing, and anything Wolfpack sports related.  Tommy lives in Raleigh with his wife Katie and their Labrador retriever Rivers.
     

Jessie Brown

Jessie Brown is new to the SP team and is excited to have found a place within Scientific Properties, a company whose goals and vision represent a convergence of her two passions: sustainable development and historic preservation. In her role as management assistant, Jessie manages residential and artist studio leasing for Golden Belt and flexes for the company in other ways including property management, accounting and marketing.

Originally from upstate New York, Jessie moved to North Carolina from New York City in 2008. She began her career in commercial real estate as the assistant to the property manager with Emmes Asset Management in New York City, a position that sparked her interest in green building and development. 

  Jessie has held Professional LEED Accreditation since the spring of 2009 and is a member of the Triangle chapter of the US Green Building Council. She has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Ithaca College and enjoys her ongoing “green” education as part of the USGBC’s new AP credentialing maintenance system.

Jessie lives in Chapel Hill and is a member of the North Carolina Aquatic Masters team at the University of North Carolina.

Dr.  Andrew Rothschild launched Scientific Properties in 2000 as an urban real estate development company with an emphasis on superior design and community needs.   From the start, environmentally-conscious development has been a goal of the company.   Andrew has held LEED accreditation since 2002 and is a member of the Urban Land Institute.  He serves on the Board of Advisors of the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, in addition to chairing the museum’s Acquisitions Committee.   Andrew serves on the board of the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and is also the founder of Laboratories for Learning, Inc., a non-profit, public/private educational initiative in biotechnology and entrepreneurship.   He completed two terms as the Chairman of the Board of Downtown Durham, Inc. and has served on the board of the Durham Chamber of Commerce as well as chaired the Durham Workforce Development Board.  Andrew is presently the managing partner of a private global real estate investment fund located in New York, and remains directly involved with Scientific Properties.

Prior to founding Scientific Properties, Dr. Rothschild was a practicing physician and served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the State University of New York.   Andrew received a B.A. from Columbia University, a M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
